What are the skills:
Throughout this project as a group we got to take care of a fish tank and conduct an experiment on our fish. To correctly retrieve data for our experiments there was a series of husbandry skills we learned. We were certified by a fellow peer who was already qualified to do the job, that way our peers learned not only the skill but how to teach others as well.
Feeding:
Feeding the fish is one of the first things you get certified in, because making sure the fish are fed, is a priority.
With smaller fish such as Gouramis or Bettas, you are going to flake feed. Flake feeding consists of crushing a pinch's worth of flake food, and simply dropping it in. If they fnish it in 2 minutes one more pinch will suffice their appetite.

Tempeture Check:
During a temperature check your tank should always be around 78-80 degrees fahrenheit, although, 80 degrees fahrenheit is preferred. You check the tempeture by putting a thermometer in half way in the tank or fully submerge it and wait 3 minutes and pull it out and read what your temperature is. Some tanks will also have a sticker thermometer on the inside, or heaters typically have a thermometer.
Water change:
To do a water change in your tank, you will at most want to siphon out 1/3 of the water. There are multiple methods to get the water to come out but our group does it by siphoning with our mouth. We suck very lightly and then once you see the water half way through the tube you point it towards the bucket and you start to turn it in the rock and move them around so you get all the fish feces, Once you have the water out you take the siphon out. You then fill the tank back up with water until you have hit your top line (Our top line is the balck base line around the tank). And the final step is too add in dechlorinator also know as (blue juice). You do not wan to forget your dechlorinator or your fish will die.
Acclimation:
Acclimating is a process we used for our experiment. To acclimate you have to get water from the fish's origin tank and put it in another tank, bowl, or bucket. You get the net and let the fish swim into it. Then once there in, you get water from the tank your going to put them and use a thinner siphon and tie a knot on and suck lightly to get the water running through the tube once it is, the water comes out slower than usual and we leave the siphon in for 5 minutes to get them used to water so you don't stress them out.
